The suggestion should be endorsed by the Club’s Members at the Annual General Meeting, which has been rescheduled to 24 June.

As is customarily the situation, the MCC President will name their replacement at the Club’s Annual General Meeting. Sangakkara’s replacement can hope to take up the post on 1 October 2021, again pending endorsement.

While Presidents of MCC just typically serve for a year time frame, it isn’t exceptional for longer terms to be acquainted with react to unprecedented conditions. During the First and Second World Wars, Lord Hawke (1914-18) and Stanley Christopherson (1939-45) served for longer periods.

In February 2020, he captained MCC on an original voyage through Pakistan – the Club’s first visit to the nation since 1973. The point of the visit was to urge universal groups to visit Pakistan by and by, following 10 years in which the nation was famished of worldwide cricket thus an assault focusing in the group transport of the Sri Lankan visit crew, who included Sangakkara among their number.
